The Women's First Team have won their first silverware of the season, beating Roma in the Serie A Women's Cup final on penalties.
The match ended 2-2 after 90 minutes, and the teams could not be separated in extra time, but Isaac Guerrero's side prevailed in a penalty shootout to defend their crown.
The coach and players Annamaria Serturini and Martina Rosucci spoke to the press after the match.
ISAAC GUERRERO
"I’m extremely proud of these girls because they kept fighting right to the end. They showed character, courage and the ability to turn a match around through their play. I think it was a match that does credit to Italian football. Roma made life difficult for us, but our girls created chances, kept possession, were determined to attack, equalised and, even after the equaliser, kept pushing for the win.
"With courage, patience, quality and talent, anything is possible – with the courage to take risks and push the boundaries. They are very ambitious girls, they want to win. The penalties, in my opinion, simply did justice to the match. This success is pure fuel for the girls, who are giving their all.
"We have one advantage: everyone is involved, everyone is playing and everyone has talent. This is a Team with a capital ‘T’. I’d also like to thank Ana Capeta, whom we miss so much. She has given so much to this team and will give so much more in the future. We hope to have her back with us soon.”
MARTINA ROSUCCI
"It’s an incredible feeling, because when you’re 2–0 down and manage to come back and win on penalties, those emotions really get under the team’s skin. We train to win, but managing to do so without compromising our identity makes it twice as good. Today, I think we really played some great football, exactly what the manager is asking of us, and managing to win like that, right until the very end, always gives you that little bit extra.
"Our motto is fino alle fine and we believed in it right to the end. We were still in the game and felt we were getting more and more into it. I told the girls: ‘Let’s score a goal and the tide will turn’, and that’s exactly what happened. Now, to be honest, I’m already thinking about the next match. We’ve got two days to recover, the Champions League is a fantastic goal and we’re off to the Allianz Stadium. So I think, mentally, we’re already there.”
ANNAMARIA SERTURINI
“I’m really happy to have won my first trophy with Juve, especially after spending last year on the sidelines. Let’s just say Tuscany brings me luck. Many years ago, I won the Primavera Scudetto here against Juventus; today I’m delighted to have contributed to Juve’s first trophy of the season, and I hope there will be many more to come. They gave me a brilliant welcome straight away and I try every day to give my all, both in training and in matches.
"It hasn’t been an easy journey, it changes you a lot, both mentally and physically. Fortunately, I’ve had my family by my side, my wife and everyone who’s supported me – as well as, of course, myself, as I worked every day to get back to my best. When I saw Rusek save that last penalty, I thought: “We’re back on track.” Roma means a great deal to me, it was my first club and I spent six years there. It will always remain an important part of my life. I’ve never denied that, but everything has a beginning and an end. Now I’m wearing a different shirt and I want to give my all because we have so many team objectives and I want to achieve them all. The Italy Under-20s are having a magnificent run, Italian women’s football is on the up and we’re trying to give our all and set an example. Anything is possible. It takes a clear head and a lot of heart.”
