The Juventus Women’s First Team took the first-leg advantage from their Women’s Italian Cup quarter-final tie with Napoli, returning home to Turin with a 2-1 win from their trip to Campania.
Amalie Vangsgaard got the first for the Bianconere in the first half, with Cristiana Girelli later netting in the second half.
THE MATCH REPORT
The Bianconere started brightly, pressing from the front and looking to pose problems for their hosts. Abi Brighton was the first to try her luck, but shot just off target from distance. Michela Cambiaghi took her turn, but her attempt stung the palms of Freja Thisgaard.
That early pressure paid off in the 17th minute when Vangsgaard struck. Pressing aggressively as always, she was able to pounce on a defensive slip and beat Thisgaard to open the scoring.
Napoli came back at the other end, mainly through Cecilie Floe, but Danielle de Jong stood big and firm to frustrate her.
Chiara Beccari looked to double the lead before the break, but found Thisgaard responsive to her effort.
Floe came out flying after the restart and levelled up the scoring almost immediately, leaving Massimiliano Canzi looking for answers.
Emma Stolen Godo teed up Cambiaghi for a header, but again her attempt was denied.
De Jong remained alert at the other end when called upon, and her saves provided the platform upon which the winner was found.
With a draw looming and the 90-minute mark just two minutes away, the Bianconere were awarded a penalty. Girelli stepped up and slotted home.
All eyes now turn to a Serie A Women fixture with Parma on Monday night, before the quarter-final second leg in Biella in a week’s time.
