13 July 2024
A review of the first matches of the July break involving Juventus Women players whilst on international duty with their respective countries.
ITALY
Italy drew with the Netherlands in a closely contested encounter in Sittard, in the fifth match of their Euro 2025 qualifying group campaign. The final score was 0-0, and the Italians were left to rue missed chances having come close to scoring on several occasions, with Caruso and Bonansea starring. Arianna and Barbara started the match alongside their three Bianconere teammates: Boattin, Cantore and Lenzini. Meanwhile, Salvai was introduced as a 71st minute substitute. Italy will mathematically secure their place in the European Championship finals, avoiding the play-offs, if they defeat Finland in their final group game on Tuesday 16th. This is as a result of the Netherlands facing Norway in their last group game. The current standings read: Netherlands 8 points, Norway and Italy 6 points, Finland 5 points.
DENMARK
New signing Vangsgaard and the Danish national team beat Belgium 3-0 in Sint-Truiden, securing their third win in five qualifying matches and securing their spot at EURO 2025. Amalie, fresh from joining Juventus Women, started the match before being replaced in the 77th minute.
FRANCE AND SWEDEN: “ A BIANCONERO DERBY”
A good performance by the French saw them win 2-1 at home against Sweden and, like Denmark, secure their place at the European Championships. Two Bianconere players were on the pitch to face off against one another, with Peyraud-Magnin between the sticks for France as usual, whilst among the Scandinavian side’s players was another new signing for Juventus Women, in the shape of Bennison, who played the entirety of the match. Whilst Estelle Cascarino was an unused substitute for France.
SWITZERLAND
It was also a good day at the office for Calligaris, who played the full 90 minutes, and another new signing Lehmann, who came on for the final 10 minutes. The Swiss defeated Turkey 0-2 away from home, securing first place in Group 1 of League B and promotion to League A.
