Less than 24 hours before the Serie A Women opener against Napoli Women, coach Isaac Guerrero reflected on the takeaways from Juventus Women’s Women’s Champions League match against Benfica and looked ahead to the start of the league campaign.
ANALYSIS OF THE EUROPEAN MATCH
“Clearly, there is always some disappointment after a defeat because Juventus is a winning club and any result other than a victory cannot leave us happy. However, we are pleased with the performance, particularly with what we showed in the first half. In terms of personality, the players took to the pitch with the right attitude: we dominated play, controlled the game and put our opponents under pressure for much of the opening period, creating several goalscoring opportunities. Football is decided by fine margins and, at the moment, certain incidents have gone against us, with a little bit of bad luck as well in terms of the timing of the penalty awarded just before half-time. The match became more balanced after the break, but we still remained in control of the game. The team also expended a lot of energy, considering that less than three days earlier we had played 120 minutes plus a penalty shootout in the final against Roma. Despite that, the players kept pushing until the final whistle and deserve nothing but praise for their effort.”
THE LEAGUE OPENER AND OUR OBJECTIVES
“We are really looking forward to the start of Serie A Women, which is one of our primary objectives. Juventus want to play a leading role and fight to reclaim the title. Last year, Roma deservedly won the league after an excellent season; this year, there are several teams equipped to challenge for the trophy. We will take to the pitch against Napoli Women with great determination, eager to immediately build on the positive things we showed in the first half against Benfica and with the intention of imposing our style of play to secure all three points.”

“We are expecting a tricky match. Napoli Women are a well-organised side, dangerous in transition, who enjoyed a good league campaign last season and showed a very competitive level. They will come to Biella determined to make a strong start and immediately put points on the board, so we are well aware that we will be facing a very challenging opponent.”
SQUAD MANAGEMENT AND A BUSY SCHEDULE
“Involving the entire squad is fundamental. We are fortunate to have top-level players throughout the group. Regardless of the schedule, it is essential that every single player feels involved and central to the project. During such a busy period, with 17 or 18 matches played in around 80 days, including friendlies, managing the squad becomes even more crucial. This demanding schedule is showing us the quality and depth of our squad, which has also been strengthened by the new arrivals. Internal competition raises the overall level and gives the coaching staff a huge number of high-quality options: for us, that represents enormous added value.”
