UEFA WOMEN'S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GUIDE
Since last season, the competition has featured a single-league format, much like the top European men's club competition. There are 18 teams, an increase of two from the previous 16-team format.
Under this new system, teams no longer face three opponents twice (home and away); instead, they play six different teams during the league phase, with half of the matches played at home and the other half away.
The top four teams in the "League Phase" automatically qualify for the quarter-finals, while teams finishing between 5th and 12th place compete in a knockout play-off round, featuring home and away legs, to secure a spot in the last eight. Teams finishing 13th through 18th are eliminated.
The four winners of the knockout play-offs advance to the quarter-finals, where they face one of the top four teams.
