Canzi: We have to be alert against Milan

Juventus Women are straight back in action after their Thursday night Italian Cup semi-final success against Fiorentina, travelling to take on Milan in Serie A on Sunday evening. Kick-off in Lombardy for what corresponds to Matchday 20 - Matchday 2 of the Poule Scudetto - of the season overall is set for 18:00 CET.

Looking ahead to the trip to Milan, coach Massimiliano Canzi shared his thoughts.

“When I got here, the aim was to go as far as possible in every competition," he said. "We are where we need to be, and even in the Women’s Champions League we made it into the group, which is what we had hoped to do.

“Of course being here alone doesn’t satisfy our hunger, but we have to say that it’s been a very good week. We won two matches that meant everything to us, because Roma still had a chance to fight for the Scudetto, they played their best and it was a great game. I loved the girls’ desire, they gave their all until the end.

"In the end, we’ll be judged on results, the rest is talk. Games are analysed with a lot of data, which is right, but what matters most is who scores the most goals.”

IMPRESSING IN THE CUP

“We did well against Fiorentina to manage the first-leg lead. I liked how the girls looked to get in front on the night, and only after that did they manage their energy a bit, knowing we’d play again in 48 hours. We faced a couple of dangerous breaks in the first half, but other than that we did well.”

NEW SIGNINGS SETTLING

“We’re very happy with how the new girls have been playing. We have a very welcoming group so they’ve all been made to feel at home already. We have a very specific tactical and technical approach, which allows the girls to integrate better once they understand that.

“And, with the club, we knew exactly what kind of player we were looking for. The fact that the new girls are doing so well from the start means that the people who chose those players were right on the money with their choices, providing me with players suited to our way of playing.”

EYES ON MILAN

“The good news is that the girls have been able to manage their energy a bit, so we’ll put a strong team out. We’re up against a young side who play good football and have nothing to lose, so they’ll play with clear heads.

“They’ll also remember how it went last time and they’ll want to avenge that. It’ll be tough, we’ll have to be alert. There are only a few games left, and at this point our goal is clear. We have to get there in the best way we can.”
