The Women’s First Team were triumphant on their debut at the Pozzo-La Marmora stadium in Biella. The Bianconere defeated Como Women 4-2 in Matchday 2 of the Women’s Serie A 2024/2025 season. Goals from Arianna Caruso, Hanna Bennison and a brace from Paulina Krumbiegel were enough to secure the three points for the Bianconere despite Zara Kramzar and Nadine Nischler getting on the scoresheet at the other end.
THE MATCH REPORT
The Bianconere didn’t get off to the best of starts with Como taking the lead after just four minutes through Kramzar's sharp left-footed finish which Pauline Peyraud-Magnin could do nothing to prevent. Juventus Women reacted quickly and in the space of four minutes they were able to find an equaliser and then go ahead thanks to goals from both central midfielders. The equaliser came through Caruso, who struck a thunderous right-footed effort from outside the penalty area that grazed the crossbar on its way to finding the back of the net; a few seconds later it was Bennison who gave the Bianconere the lead, making an excellent run to get on the end of Chiara Beccari's pass before slotting home. Beccari tried to go alone shortly afterwards, taking advantage of Cristiana Girelli's excellent work, but she was unable to beat Astrid Gilardi in the Como goal. The sides went into the break level as eight minutes before the interval Nischler found the Como equaliser from a direct free-kick.
It only took Juventus Women a few minutes to retake the lead after the restart: the freshly introduced Krumbiegel saw her initial effort saved by Gilardi, but the Como goalkeeper was unable to do anything to prevent the German slotting home the rebound. The home side tried to kick on and put the game to bed but had several efforts to extend their advantage denied by the Como Women defence as well as seeing Caruso’s effort hit the woodwork. In the end it was Krumbiegel who found the killer goal and her second of the game as she was on hand at the back post to volley home Valentina Bergamaschi’s cross. That brought an end to the first match at the Pozzo-La Marmora of Biella, with Juventus Women overcoming Como Women 4-2.
COACH MASSIMILIANO CANZI’S THOUGHTS ON THE GAME
“We are scoring a lot of goals for sure; we are doing well in that aspect and I am happy. I can't be happy with the defensive displays though because we have conceded 5 goals in 2 games which is a lot, we have to improve in that respect. The difference between the first and second half was the attitude of the team, we have great players but we cannot think we will win just because we are called Juventus. We have to fight and win duels, in the second half the attitude of the whole team changed. The first game at home? Everything is very nice, a great job has been done, the pitch is beautiful. The support was great, I have to congratulate the fans who came. From tomorrow morning we will start thinking about the Women's Champions League, we are going to play against a team that was a semi-finalist last season. We will have to put in a great performance to bring home a positive result. The impact of playing with one more or less midfielder is relative and depends on the situation and analysis of the match.”
PAULINA KRUMBIEGEL’S POST-MATCH COMMENTS
“I am very happy with the two goals but even happier with the three points. It was a tough game, we had some difficulties in the first half but I am very happy with the result in the end. Against PSG we have to make fewer mistakes defensively, we are conceding too many goals. I think this is the most important thing to improve. My acclimatisation? It's a new challenge for me and I feel good. I will adapt and settle in more and more over time, it's different here than in Germany so it will take a while but I'm very satisfied with the last few weeks and winning the first two games.”
